University Partners is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Property Accountant to join our growing accounting team. This role is ideal for an experienced real estate accounting professional who enjoys full-cycle property accounting, financial reporting, process improvement, and working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
The Senior Property Accountant will assist the Controller with the accounting management of assigned student housing properties, ensuring property-level financial information and financial statements are prepared accurately and on time. Key Responsibilities
- Perform full-cycle accounting for assigned student housing properties.
- Review accounts payable, journal entries, monthly accruals, amortizations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage accounting responsibilities for multiple student housing properties within the company portfolio.
- Respond to Property Manager questions regarding monthly charges, invoice coding, and month-end reporting.
- Assist with preparation of annual property budgets.
- Review monthly charges, Gross Potential Rent reports, and other accounts receivable balances.
- Calculate monthly property management fees and process related payments.
- Prepare month-end reporting packages.
- Review and analyze budget-to-actual variances.
- Prepare annual work papers and reconciliations for year-end tax returns and external audits.
- Assist the Property Accounting Manager, Vice President, and Controller with cash flow analyses and other accounting projects as needed.
- Identify areas for process improvement and help increase accounting efficiencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- 3+ years of real estate property-level accrual basis accounting experience required.
- Student housing or multifamily property accounting experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
- Experience with Entrata, MRI, and/or Yardi accounting software preferred.
- Prior experience analyzing accounting processes and improving efficiencies.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn new systems and processes.
- Coachable, enthusiastic, creative, flexible, and comfortable working in a growing environment.
